Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches has introduced two creations that expand its reputation for blending watchmaking with celestial science.

Since its founding in 1974, the Dutch atelier has been devoted to astronomical complications, turning the rhythms of the cosmos into wearable art. These new models continue that philosophy, encouraging the wearer to experience time as part of a larger celestial story.

Venus has long fascinated observers. It shines brilliantly in the sky, yet its surface is a hostile world of extreme heat and crushing pressure. This contrast between radiant beauty and harsh reality has made it a compelling subject for scientific study and artistic interpretation alike—an ideal inspiration for a watchmaker who specializes in cosmic themes.

Both watches are powered by the CKM‑01, the brand’s in-house movement introduced in 2024. This caliber is paired with a newly developed Venus module, an intricate mechanism that animates the dial with astronomical precision. Four discs form the display, three of which rotate continuously to show the shifting positions of Venus, Earth, and the Moon. The result is a constantly evolving portrait of our solar neighborhood. The watches track the orbits of Earth and Venus around the Sun, as well as the Moon’s path around Earth. This transforms the dial into a living diagram of celestial motion—scientific, poetic, and endlessly engaging.

The Venus Zodiac interprets this cosmic choreography with a more artistic sensibility. Its deep blue aventurine dial sparkles like a night sky, while the zodiac ring around the edge marks the Sun’s progression through the year. The moonphase display is rendered in a way that feels intuitive: a new moon appears when the Moon sits between Earth and the Sun, and a full moon when Earth stands between the two.

The Venus Annual Calendar approaches the same theme with a more structured aesthetic. Its sunray-finished dial provides a crisp backdrop for the astronomical discs, while an outer ring displays the annual calendar with sections that reflect the length of each month. The mechanism requires adjustment only once every four years. The rotating discs also present scientific data, including the orbital periods and speeds of Earth and Venus, as well as the Moon’s cycle.

Both models are presented in refined 38 mm cases crafted in stainless steel or rose gold. A domed sapphire crystal offers a clear view of the rotating discs, while the transparent case back reveals the CKM‑01’s decorative architecture—star-shaped bridges, hand-finished components, and a skeletonized rotor shaped like the brand’s sun emblem.

The movement delivers a 60-hour power reserve and features a free-sprung hairspring with a variable-inertia balance wheel operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour. With 36 jewels and meticulous finishing throughout, it reflects the brand’s dedication to merging technical mastery with artistic expression.
