CORUM Revives an American Icon
In 2026, the United States mark 250 years of independence. Among the voices joining the celebration is CORUM, the Swiss watchmaker whose own history has long intertwined with American symbolism, culture and prestige. To celebrate this special occasion, the Maison unveils the Heritage Coin collection, a project that transforms its most emblematic creation into a horological tribute to the American Union. Fifty states, fifty interpretations, each produced in just five numbered pieces — a constellation of 250 watches echoing 250 years of nationhood.
At the heart of this commemorative series lies the Coin Watch, a model that has occupied a singular place in Swiss watchmaking since 1964. Its origin story is as audacious as it is poetic: a genuine Double Eagle coin, split along its edge, reimagined as a timepiece. The 22‑carat gold piece — once legal tender for more than eight decades — bore the American coat of arms, an eagle in full command, thirteen stars for the founding colonies and the solemn motto “In God We Trust.” CORUM transformed this symbol of national identity into a watch that became, over time, an emblem of quiet power and refined influence.
The craftsmanship behind the original Coin Watch remains one of the most meticulous artisanal processes in modern horology. The coin is cut in two, its front becoming the dial beneath sapphire crystal, its reverse forming the case back. Between them sits an ultra‑thin movement, framed by an 18‑carat gold ring whose knurling faithfully reproduces the coin’s original texture. Every piece is assembled and finished entirely by hand — a ritual that has endured for more than sixty years.
This heritage has travelled through the upper echelons of American leadership. Richard Nixon received one from CORUM; Ronald Reagan famously wore his on the cover of TIME; Henry Kissinger counted himself among its distinguished owners. These appearances forged a bond between the watch and the American imagination — a symbol of understated prestige, of influence expressed not through ostentation but through legacy.
In 2026, CORUM reopens this chapter with renewed ambition. The Heritage Coin collection comprises fifty distinct creations, each dedicated to one of the fifty states and engraved accordingly. The front of every watch features a powerful American eagle and the inscription “250 Years of Independence,” while the reverse reveals a bespoke design: a landscape, a symbol, a founding moment or a cultural motif that defines the territory it represents. Each piece becomes a miniature narrative, a wearable fragment of American history.
Housed in a 39mm yellow‑gold case, the watches are powered by CORUM’s CO082 automatic calibre with a 42‑hour power reserve. Two baton hands, US Mint iconography and the unmistakable Coin aesthetic complete the composition. As Haso Mehmedovic, Chairman & CEO of CORUM, notes, “The Coin is far more than a CORUM watch — it is a reflection of over sixty years of history and a bond woven with America. When the opportunity to celebrate its 250th anniversary arose, the answer was obvious. We wanted to create something unique, where each piece tells a different story.”
Together, these fifty creations form a horological portrait of the United States — a mosaic of territories, symbols and memories. More than a commemorative edition, the collection offers collectors an object that invites contemplation as much as admiration. It unites two enduring narratives: that of a watch born from innovation and audacity, and that of a nation whose spirit it has long carried.
Available exclusively on CORUM’s website from 4 July 2026, the Heritage Coin collection stands as both tribute and testament — a celebration of independence, craftsmanship and the stories that shape identity.
