The Cape Cod in its new titanium version feels like Hermès returning to one of its most beloved creations with fresh eyes, rediscovering its playful geometry and free‑spirited character while infusing it with a distinctly contemporary energy.
What began in 1991 as Henri d’Origny’s refusal to draw a simple square watch has evolved into a design icon—its “square within a rectangle” silhouette inspired by the anchor‑chain link, its proportions intentionally unconventional, its spirit rooted in joy and spontaneity. In this latest interpretation, Hermès preserves that creative audacity but expresses it through modern materials, refined textures and a movement crafted within the Manufacture.

The titanium case immediately sets the tone. Measuring 41 mm, it is shaped with the same architectural lines that have defined the Cape Cod for more than three decades, yet the material transforms the experience of wearing it. Titanium is light, resilient and subtly warm to the touch, giving the watch a relaxed, almost effortless presence on the wrist. Hermès finishes the case with a satin surface on top that catches light softly, while the bead‑blasted sides introduce a matte contrast that emphasizes the watch’s sporty personality. The interplay of these finishes makes the case feel alive, shifting gently as the wearer moves.

The dial deepens this sense of movement. Hermès has long mastered the art of texture, and here the brand uses it to create a dial that feels both understated and richly dimensional. The center is sandblasted, giving it a velvety appearance that diffuses light rather than reflecting it. Surrounding it is a satin‑finished and brushed ring that frames the dial and adds depth, subtly guiding the eye toward the numerals and hands. The Arabic numerals are rhodium‑plated and coated with Super‑LumiNova®, ensuring they remain legible in daylight and glow softly in darkness. The baton‑style hands share the same luminous coating, reinforcing clarity at a glance. Then there is the orange seconds hand—a single stroke of vivid color that animates the dial, evoking sunlight on the horizon or the bright buoyancy of a day spent near the sea.

Inside the case beats the Manufacture Hermès H1912 movement, a self‑winding caliber crafted in Switzerland. It is compact at 23.8 mm in diameter and just 3.9 mm thick, yet it delivers a 45‑hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement drives the hours, minutes and seconds, along with a date display positioned at 6 o’clock—an elegant placement that maintains the dial’s symmetry. Hermès has invested deeply in its watchmaking capabilities over the past decade, and the H1912 reflects that commitment: reliable, refined and designed to integrate seamlessly into the aesthetic language of the Cape Cod.

The watch’s sporty nature is further expressed through its water resistance of 10 bar, making it suitable for swimming and everyday adventure. This practicality is echoed in the rubber straps, offered in black, bleu abysse, orange and jaune de Naples. Each color shifts the personality of the watch: black feels understated and urban; bleu abysse evokes deep ocean water; orange radiates energy; and jaune de Naples brings a warm, sunny brightness. The straps are supple and comfortable, reinforcing the watch’s casual elegance and its connection to the open sea.

What makes the Cape Cod Titanium truly compelling is the way it embodies Hermès’ philosophy of time. Hermès does not treat time as something to be measured or controlled. Instead, the house approaches it as an object—something crafted, shaped, and infused with emotion. Time becomes a companion, a space for spontaneity, a moment of lightness. The Cape Cod has always expressed that idea, and in this new titanium version, it does so with renewed clarity. It is bold yet relaxed, technical yet poetic, modern yet unmistakably Hermès.
