TUDOR EXPANDS ITS RANGER LINEUP
From the frozen landscapes crossed by the British North Greenland Expedition in the 1950s to the scorching sands of Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter during today’s Dakar Rally, TUDOR watches have long been trusted by explorers pushing into the planet’s harshest environments. The latest additions carry that legacy forward—now offered in a 36mm size and a new “Dune white” dial.
Alongside the new dial colour, the Ranger is now available in a fully brushed 36mm stainless steel case, complementing the existing 39mm version. Built to withstand whatever the world throws at it, the Ranger remains a true tool watch—uncomplicated, dependable, and ready for anything. With these new variants, that spirit becomes even more pronounced.
In extreme conditions, complexity becomes a liability. During the Dakar Rally, a mechanical failure can mean the difference between crossing the finish line and spending a freezing night stranded in the desert. Watches face similar demands. The TUDOR Ranger embodies simplicity and clarity—robust, reliable, and stripped of unnecessary complications. The new matte “Dune white” dial joins the permanent collection, subtly nodding to TUDOR’s connection to the world’s toughest rally. In a place where the population is zero and the landscape is defined by heat, rock, and towering dunes, the Ranger feels right at home.
In the most remote corners of the world, there are no watchmakers waiting to help. You need a watch that simply works. Whether you’re heading toward the poles or crossing the Rub’ al Khali, the Ranger is built to go the distance.
THE RANGER STORY
The Ranger name first appeared in 1929, when Hans Wilsdorf registered it—three years after securing the “The TUDOR” trademark. At first, “Ranger” wasn’t tied to a specific model but served to evoke a spirit of adventure within the collection. The design language we now associate with the Ranger emerged in the 1960s: bold Arabic numerals at 3 (on no-date models), 6, 9, and 12 o’clock, coated generously with lume, and distinctive hand shapes.
Over the decades, the Ranger appeared in many forms—date and no-date versions, automatic and manual movements, dials bearing the TUDOR rose or later the shield. In 1973, TUDOR even introduced the “Ranger II,” featuring an integrated bracelet.
THE ESSENCE OF AN EXPEDITION WATCH
The new Ranger stays true to the visual codes established throughout its history—especially the iconic Arabic numerals—while integrating modern technical upgrades, including a high‑performance Manufacture Calibre and the TUDOR “T‑fit” clasp with rapid adjustment. It continues the lineage of practical, durable expedition watches that began with the Oyster Prince models worn by the British North Greenland Expedition. A tradition built on reliability, functionality, and accessibility.
To honour that heritage, both the case and bracelet are satin‑brushed for a fully matte appearance, true to the utilitarian nature of an expedition watch. Select polished accents, such as the bezel edge, sharpen the case profile. The dial features historically inspired painted hour markers—beige or black depending on the model—contrasting cleanly with the textured matte surface and matching the tone of the TUDOR shield and text. The signature Ranger hands return as well: a rounded hour hand, angular seconds hand, and a burgundy‑tipped seconds pointer.
MANUFACTURE CALIBRES MT5400 & MT5402
Inside the Ranger beats either the MT5400 (36mm) or MT5402 (39mm) Manufacture Calibre. These movements are engineered for strength, longevity, and precision, featuring a variable‑inertia balance secured by a robust traversing bridge with two anchor points. Their balance wheels and non‑magnetic silicon hairsprings help them exceed COSC chronometer standards. While COSC allows a daily deviation of -4 to +6 seconds, TUDOR demands a tighter range of -2 to +4 seconds for fully assembled watches.
Another highlight: a “weekend‑proof” 70‑hour power reserve, meaning you can set the watch down on Friday and pick it up Monday without rewinding.
BRACELET OR FABRIC STRAP
Ranger models come with a fully satin‑brushed stainless steel bracelet equipped with the TUDOR “T‑fit” clasp, offering tool‑free micro‑adjustments across five positions and an 8mm range. Every Ranger is also available with a single‑piece, earth‑tone, tri‑colour fabric strap. Woven in France on 19th‑century Jacquard looms by Julien Faure in the Saint‑Étienne region, these straps are renowned for their durability, craftsmanship, and comfort.
