IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN UNVEILS NEW F1TM TEAM WATCH BEFORE SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX
Crafted from a resilient yet lightweight Grade 5 titanium alloy, the 41‑millimeter chronograph introduces a dial in a vivid purple tone – a first for IWC’s Pilot’s line. The dynamic hue draws inspiration from Singapore’s national flower, the orchid Vanda Miss Joaquim. As with earlier team editions, the dial also incorporates details in the team’s hallmark green. The new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team runs on the IWC‑manufactured 69385 caliber.
Since 2013, IWC Schaffhausen has supported the Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team as Official Engineering Partner – and in the 14th year of collaboration, the Swiss luxury watchmaker presents its latest team model. Beginning in 2022, the official team watches have embodied a shared philosophy of performance, engineering excellence and forward‑looking design. Encompassing several chronographs and an automatic model, the series is unified by common traits and design signatures – including the use of advanced performance materials such as titanium, ceramic and Ceratanium®, paired with dials or accents in the team’s distinctive PETRONAS green. Like the earlier editions, the fourth team watch reflects IWC’s watchmaking heritage and the uncompromising performance the Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team demonstrates on circuits worldwide.
The new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team (Ref. IW388121) is a robustly constructed chronograph suited both to the paddock and everyday wear. Its defining element is the deep, saturated purple dial. The color pays homage to Singapore and its national orchid, bred in 1893 by Armenian‑Singaporean horticulturist Agnes Joaquim. The flower, a national symbol, is associated with resilience, boldness and innovation – qualities equally present in the shared world of IWC and the Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team. Beneath its vibrant surface, the Vanda Miss Joaquim conceals the intricate complexity of nature – just as the instrument‑style dial of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 conceals the sophistication of the mechanical movement beneath.
The launch of the new team watch coincides with a new collection from adidas, the official team partner and kit supplier. The collection centers on the core principles of adaptive precision in Formula One™ engineering and adidas’s performance‑driven identity.
As with all previous team watches, the new chronograph features accents in the Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team’s signature color. The recognizable PETRONAS green highlights the numerals and indices; applied as a luminescent coating on the hands, it creates a striking contrast against the dial’s rich purple. The bold aesthetic is complemented by a purple rubber strap. Thanks to the EasX‑CHANGE® system, it can be exchanged for another strap option with a simple press of a button.
A MATERIAL ENGINEERED FOR MOTORSPORT
The 41‑millimeter case is produced from Grade 5 titanium – a material valued throughout Formula One™ for its exceptional strength‑to‑weight ratio and heat resistance. Titanium weighs roughly half as much as steel and is naturally corrosion‑resistant. Beyond engine components such as connecting rods and valves, it also plays a crucial role in driver safety: the Halo device, which arcs over the cockpit as a protective structure, is likewise machined from a high‑strength titanium alloy. The watch’s titanium case features a brushed finish that accentuates the metal’s characteristic silvery‑gray sheen.
A CHRONOGRAPH BUILT FOR ACCURACY AND DURABILITY
Inside beats the IWC‑manufactured 69385 caliber, a mechanical chronograph based on a classical column‑wheel design and engineered for precision, reliability and endurance. The stop‑minute counter sits at 12 o’clock in IWC’s signature vertical subdial layout, ensuring clear and intuitive elapsed‑time readings. This configuration has been a defining element of IWC’s Pilot’s Chronographs for more than forty years. The combined day‑date display at 3 o’clock adds everyday utility. A bidirectional pawl‑winding system delivers a 46‑hour power reserve. Decorated with Geneva stripes and circular graining, the movement is visible through the transparent sapphire‑glass case back.
THE FOURTH OFFICIAL TEAM WATCH
The first team watch debuted at the 2022 Miami Grand Prix: the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Edition “Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team” (Ref. IW388108) in titanium. The following year, at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, IWC introduced the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team (Ref. IW388306), featuring a Ceratanium® case and polished black ceramic bezel with tachymeter scale. In 2025, IWC and its partner opened the season with the Pilot’s Watch Mark XX Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team (Ref. IW328210), a three‑hand model appreciated for its slim profile and versatility. As with its predecessors, the new team watch will be worn by team members trackside – mechanics, engineers and beyond – as well as by staff at the team’s headquarters in Brackley, England.
