Watches and Wonders novelties – part I
IWC at Watches and Wonders 2021
IWC’s dynamic CEO, Christoph Grainger-Herr, presented a well-put together collection, based on the brand’s legendary pilot’s watches. The highlights? A perfectly wearable Pilot’s Chronograph (41 mm), great for ladies and gents alike; a slimmed-down, purer, but still instrument-like Big Pilot’s Watch (43 mm); a big and we mean big – 46 mm – Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar ( 46 mm); and, the final coup: the all-new Big Pilot Shock Absorber XPL, a watch that can withstand shocks up to 30,000 g, a piece that was made in collaboration with the Cavendish Laboratory from the University of Cambridge. It is the first watch to feature the brand’s patented new shock absorber system. Developed over eight years, the SPRIN-g PROTECT system is based on a cantilever spring that suspends the movement inside the case. Only 30 pieces of the XPL will be made, over 3 years.

Jaeger-LeCoultre at Watches and Wodners 2021
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s CEO, Catherine Renier, presented the brand’s hommage to the Reverso, occasioned by the famous model’s 90th anniversary: the Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185. This is the first ever watch with four faces, combining La Grande Maison’s three areas of expertise: sound (minute repeater), precision (tourbillon) and celestial complications (three lunar cycles). Six years of development, 11 complications, 10 pieces, around 1,6 million euros.

BVLGARI at Watches and Wonders 2021
Bvlgari, the perfect blend between Italian design and Swiss watchmaking, presented the beautifully understated, monochromatic, slim, elegant, striking Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar, a true masterpiece that can be worn on the greatest occasions or every day, with jeans. Watch this space for a great interview with the famed designer of Octo Finissimo, Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani. For ladies, or, better said, for those ladies that perhaps will not wear the Perpetual Calendar, the brand has launched the beautiful Serpenti Misteriosi Cleopatra, a one-of-a-kind cuff watch, a spectacular puzzle of gems, one of them dissimulating a small, elegant dial. In other words, a secret watch, a breathtaking piece of jewellery.
