The Butterfly Effect
In December 2020, Mariah Carey received the book presenting Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection haute joaillerie pieces, from the brand’s Co-President and Artistic Director Caroline Scheufele. Mariah was immediately taken over by the flamboyant imagination and glamour of Chopard and, since she wanted to celebrate the Diamond Disc that she was about to receive for her “All I want for Christmas” hit, she reached out to Caroline for a jewelry discussion. The two personalities discovered they were on the same creative page, and this is how a new collection came to life.
The selected theme was, of course, the butterfly, which, for the singer, represents her rebirth. 25 years ago, her Butterfly album proved to be the turning point in both her musical and personal life, an event that she wanted to honor.
The haute joaillerie unique set includes a pair of asymmetrical earrings that feature wings framing the face,
a heart necklace that points to the place from which the voice takes flight and a ring that accompanies the language, but oh so powerful language of hands, like a stage gesture that accompanies the nuances of a musical score.
Besides the haute joaillerie set, the collaboration also gave birth to the Happy Butterfly X Mariah Carey Collection – a happy gathering of bejeweled butterflies, created from ethical gold, diamonds and carnelian.
Of course, the Happy Butterflies collection preserves the esthetical codes of the legendary Happy Diamonds collection – a transparent, openworked heart in which a dancing diamond is protected by two sapphire crystals. Four majestic wings unfold in a whole new, symmetric way. The wings are entirely paved with diamonds or carnelian, while the butterfly is crafted from ethical rose or white gold, adorning a pendant, a bangle, a ring or a pair of earrings.
