SHAPES OF EXTRALEGANZA: Piaget unveils a new High Jewellery collection
Shapes of Extraleganza is a bold celebration of Piaget’s signature blend of daring sophistication and creative freedom. As the second chapter in a trilogy that began with Essence of Extraleganza, this new High Jewellery collection dives deep into the Maison’s vibrant legacy from the 1960s and 70s—an era that shaped its rebellious spirit. It reinterprets classic ideas with contemporary flair, pushing the envelope of artistry and craftsmanship while breathing new life into the brand’s audacious DNA.
This collection pays tribute to Piaget’s rich history of artistic alliances, drawing inspiration from legendary collaborators like Salvador Dalí, Arman, and collectors such as Andy Warhol. These connections, born from Yves Piaget’s friendships and his inner circle of creatives—the famed Piaget Society—fueled a pioneering dialogue between art and jewellery. With the ingenuity of Jean-Claude Gueit and the impeccable skill of Piaget’s artisans, the Maison elevated watchmaking and jewellery into the realms of conceptual design and cultural commentary. From its landmark 1969 21st Century Collection to today, Shapes of Extraleganza channels that same avant-garde vitality, offering pieces that resonate with modern artistry and relevance.
A Fusion of Unexpected Elements
The 2025 installment of Extraleganza dives into Piaget’s archives and reemerges with 51 sculptural creations that radiate rhythm and visual dynamism. With shapes that intersect and collide—zigzags, circles, triangles and freeform curves—the collection dances between geometry and fluidity. These forms draw from the vivid vocabulary of Pop and Op Art, the swirling psychedelia of ‘70s prints, and the generous contours of ‘60s icons. In essence, it’s where haute joaillerie meets pop sensibility.
Each suite in the collection is an ode to a different artistic spirit, effortlessly blending eras, aesthetics, and innovation. Most include a timepiece—showcasing Piaget’s unique ability to merge jewellery artistry with fine watchmaking, where dazzling complications meet flamboyant design.
In true Piaget fashion, materials and techniques are reinvented. Vibrant ornamental stones, once found on 1960s dials, are reborn as dazzling mosaics in the Kaleidoscope Lights suite—a striped spectacle of rhodochrosite, sugilite, verdite and more, carved and aligned with precision. Flowing Curves, on the other hand, embodies the raw elegance of nature. Irregular black opals nestle in hand-hammered white gold, debuting a new goldsmithing language that joins the storied Decor Palace textures. It’s a heartfelt tribute to Yves Piaget’s lifelong fascination with opals, in which he claimed to see “the whole world, made of different tastes and sensibilities.”
Colour, Light, Emotion
Colour takes center stage in these exuberant designs. Radiant red spinels and bold pinks animate the Wave Illusion suite, a nod to the joyous geometry of the Memphis movement. Sun-drenched yellow sapphires crown the Curved Artistry ring-watch, hiding a diamond dial beneath a luminous aquamarine dome. Colombian emeralds seduce in the Gleaming Shapes and Arty Pop ensembles, while the Joyful Twirls cuff watches ripple with pavé-set sapphires or spessartite garnets in swirling compositions that blend silky bracelet finesse with Piaget’s ultra-thin self-winding mechanism—a first in High Jewellery.
Living Sculpture
At the heart of the collection stands its most radical creation: Endless Motion, a mobile-inspired table clock by French artist and Maison confidant Alex Palenski. This kinetic sculpture, alive with floating stones in oceanic blues and greens, captures Piaget’s exuberant spirit and artistic dynamism.
