Vacheron Constantin unveils the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Azure Dial
Since its debut in 1996, Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas collection has continuously evolved through the introduction of new references inspired by travel and discovery. To mark the collection’s 30th anniversary, the Manufacture unveils an Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin featuring a previously unseen combination of a white gold case and a new azure dial. Produced in a limited run of 200 pieces, the watch is powered by the ultra-thin Calibre 1120 QP/1, which measures just 4.05 mm thick, and is supplied with three interchangeable straps that can be exchanged without the use of tools.
A timepiece celebrating three decades of exploration
Introduced in 1996, the Overseas collection carried forward the legacy of the iconic 222. Alongside the Chronomètre Royal of 1975, the 222 helped establish the Maison’s distinctive sport-elegant aesthetic. Conceived as a watch for modern travellers, the Overseas combined sophistication and practicality, its design characterised by a distinctive bezel secured to a streamlined case. The collection was envisioned as a companion for those with a passion for exploration, blending elegance with everyday adaptability.have also been incorporated, adding further diversity to the Overseas range.
The second generation of Overseas arrived in 2004 with a more assertive and athletic design language. It introduced an integrated bracelet whose links echoed the shape of the Maltese cross, the symbol of Vacheron Constantin. This evolution also expanded the collection with a wider range of complications and jewellery creations, reinforcing its versatility.
A further chapter began in 2016 with the unveiling of the third and current generation. New in-house movements tailored specifically for the collection included chronograph, dual-time and world-time calibres. While preserving emblematic features such as the notched bezel and integrated bracelet inspired by the Maltese cross, the design adopted smoother, more contemporary contours. A key innovation was the introduction of a quick-release strap system, allowing owners to switch between styles effortlessly. Today, Overseas models are typically delivered with a set of interchangeable straps, enabling seamless transitions between different occasions without requiring any tools.
Since that redesign, the collection has continued to broaden its offering. Its catalogue now spans everything from simple time-only references to highly sophisticated complications, including models with skeletonised movements. Alongside steel and 18-carat gold, materials such as titanium and platinum

An all-new shade of blue
When the latest generation of Overseas launched in 2016, Vacheron Constantin also introduced a rich blue dial colour developed through close collaboration between the brand’s design and dial-making teams. Its remarkable depth, achieved through metallic tones and multiple layers of lacquer, quickly became a signature feature admired by collectors.
For this latest Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, the Maison presents a fresh interpretation of that colour. The new azure hue is lighter and more delicate, evoking open horizons, travel and freedom, themes deeply connected to the spirit of the collection. Depending on the surrounding light, the dial reveals changing nuances and reflections, which pair elegantly with the understated brilliance of the white gold case. The result is an equilibrium between refined sophistication and relaxed contemporary style.
The lacquered dial’s depth is further enhanced by the harmonious integration of its displays, particularly the moon-phase indication, which appears in a matching blue tone. Applied hour markers and calendar indications introduce subtle visual contrast, improving readability while maintaining a balanced and coherent aesthetic.
Created as a genuine companion for travel, the watch includes the Overseas collection’s signature strap-interchangeability system. Alongside the integrated white gold bracelet, which features a micro-adjustment mechanism within the clasp, the timepiece is accompanied by two textured rubber straps in white and denim blue. Both are fitted with interchangeable white gold pin buckles, offering additional versatility.

Ultra-thin watchmaking expertise dedicated to the perpetual calendar
With the Calibre 1120 QP/1, Vacheron Constantin demonstrates its longstanding mastery of ultra-thin movement construction. Combining automatic winding with a complete perpetual calendar and moon-phase indication, the movement measures only 4.05 mm in height, allowing the watch to maintain an exceptionally slim profile with an overall case thickness of just 8.1 mm.
This remarkable achievement in miniaturisation reflects the technical expertise required to integrate one of watchmaking’s most complex complications into such a compact architecture. The perpetual calendar automatically accounts for months of varying lengths, including leap years, and will not require correction until the year 2100, when the Gregorian calendar omits a leap year because the year is not divisible by 400.
Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement showcases the refined finishing associated with haute horlogerie. Geneva stripes and hand-finished bevels adorn the bridges, while the mainplate features perlage decoration. Calendar components receive either vertical or circular satin brushing, highlighting the attention paid to every detail. Completing the movement is a 22-carat gold oscillating weight engraved with a compass rose, a symbolic reference to the spirit of exploration that defines the Overseas collection.
The calibre comprises 276 components, each finished with meticulous care, including parts that remain hidden once assembly is complete. This commitment to craftsmanship and technical excellence reflects the standards of fine watchmaking that have shaped the Overseas collection throughout its three decades of evolution.
