The legacy of a vineyard to the wrist
“Nisiar was born out of our desire to rethink how we use natural resources. Today, we are thrilled to present a material that combines aesthetics, performance, and eco-responsibility,” explains Rodolphe Mondin, co-founder of Nisiar.
This material stands out for its lack of textile support, giving it resistance and durability equivalent to animal leather, with a composition of 75% natural materials. Making one square meter of Nisiar requires about 1kg of raw grape marc.
Each variety of Nisiar is associated with a specific grape marc, giving it a unique colour and texture. The N-07 variety ID Genève uses comes from the wine residue of Château de Beaucastel, owned by the Perrin Family, partners, and investors in Mondin. Its uniqueness lies in its natural brown hue derived from the tannins of 13 grape varieties of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
“With Nisiar, we have not only found a material of exceptional quality but also an extremely precise traceability that allows us to trace the exact journey of the grape marc from Château de Beaucastel to the watch strap. This transparency is the luxury of tomorrow” indicates Cédric Mulhauser, co-founder of ID Genève.
Founded in 2020, ID Genève creates luxury mechanical watches according to the principles of the circular economy, utilizing ethically sourced recycled materials and low-carbon processes. In 2023, the Maison raised CHF 2 million from several Swiss family offices and Leonardo DiCaprio.
ID Genève uses circular materials with a low carbon footprint, promotes the use of recycled components, and offers watches that combine elegance with sustainability through 100% recycled stainless steel, refurbished mechanical movements, and straps made from bio-sourced materials.
MONDIN, the companyd founded in 2021 by Julien Houssiaux and Rodolphe Mondin, specializes in valorising vine by-products. In 2022, MONDIN secured funding from Bernard Magrez and the Perrin family to ensure the supply of raw materials and optimize the patented production process. Also, in 2024, MONDIN scaled up to an industrial level and began marketing Nisiar, its innovative material available in various forms. This scaling up allows Nisiar to enter new markets such as luxury packaging, leather goods, furniture, and more.
